West Coast Eagles def Essendon @ Subiaco Oval, Perth by 23 points
Round 4 provided plenty of one-sided games this weekend and it all started in Perth on Friday night when the West Coast Eagles notched up their 1st win of the season by defeating a very disappointing Essendon team. The Eagles started in brilliant fashion at the 1st centre bounce with Nic Naitanui's ruck and clearance work and 1st goal of the game to Mark LeCras in the 1st 20 seconds of the game. However, the Bombers fought back and in a fast, tight and exciting opening quarter, the Bombers only trailed by 4 points. But, the Eagles turned it around in the second quarter kicking 6.3 to 0.4, which gave them a 39 point lead at half-time and the game was all but over by then. Dean Cox for the Eagles returned to form getting 30 hitouts, 19 disposals, 2 marks and 1.1 for the game. Jobe Watson lead from the front admirably getting 34 disposals and 2 marks for the Bombers. However, it wasn't all roses for the Eagles, as it appears that Daniel Kerr has done a serious hamstring injury and could be out for a significant period of time. While Essendon dearly missed the input of Brent Stanton. It was an important win for the Eagles, as they are 1.3 now and face a tough challenge next week when they play the Sydney Swans at the SCG, while the Bombers have the big ANZAC Day game against Collingwood in a must-win game, a loss for either the Bombers and the Eagles could make it hard for them to make the finals.

Sydney Swans def North Melbourne @ Etihad Stadium, Melbourne by 40 points.
The Sydney Swans broke another long-time hoodoo this time defeating North Melbourne in Melbourne for the 1st time since 1996. It took until the 3rd quarter until the Swans clicked into gear, where they kicked 5.5 to 2.4 to set up an impressive win, making it 2 wins from 2 games away from home. Daniel Hannerbery continued his good start to his short career collecting a game-high 28 disposals, 9 marks and 1.0 in a best on ground effort. Daniel Bradshaw continued his good form kicking 4.4 from 18 disposals and 11 marks, 6 of them contested marks. Best for the Kangaroos was veteren on-baller Brent Harvey with 25 disposals 8 marks and 1.0 game. Throughout the 1st half there were 13 lead changes, so to win by 40 points against a team that was their bogey side in Melbourne, proved to be an impressive and important win for the Sydney Swans. The Swans take on another arch enemy next week at home against the West Coast Eagles and a win their could cement their spot in the 4 early on, while the Kangaroos face Hawthorn in a must-win game to have a chance for the finals.

Carlton def Adelaide Crows @ AAMI Stadium, Adelaide by 48 points.
The Adelaide Crows horror 2010 season continued this time at the hands of the Carlton Blues, losing their 2nd consecutive game at home by 48 points. It was a significant win by Carlton because not only did it keep their chances alive for the finals, but the win was their first win over the Crows in 7 games. It was their first win over the Crows since Round 11, 2004 where the Blues won by 4 points.at the same venue. Chris Judd returned for the Blues line-up after serving his suspension and made an immediate impact having 30 disposals, 3 marks, 9 tackles and 1.0 but best for the Blues was Andrew Walker with a 36 disposal, 12 mark game. Best for the Crows was Bernie Vince with 31 disposals and 5 marks. The Crows were woeful in front of goal and wasted plenty of chances to get back into the game kicking 6.19 in total. They kicked 2.7 in the 1st quarter, 1.2 in the 2nd quarter, 1.6 in the 3rd quarter and 2.4 in the final quarter. That doesnt give any team a chance to win, especially when they had more scoring shots 25 to 23 and lose by 48 points, that type of kicking for goal, kills you nearly everytime. However, the Crows are now 0.4 and face an uphill battle to climb off the bottom reaches of the ladder. They now face the Western Bulldogs @ Etihad Stadium, while the Blues face a tough challenge and face the Cats @ the MCG on Monday week.

Collingwood def Hawthorn @ the MCG, Melbourne by 64 points
Collingwood also broke a 4 game losing streak against the Hawks by defeating the Hawks @ the MCG by 64 points. It was their 1st win over the Hawks since Round 17, 2006 where they defeated the Hawks by 45 points. The win has put a horror week for the Magpies to end, where their coach Mick Malthouse fined for having a spat with St.Kilda's Stephen Milne. The Magpies flew out of the blocks in the opening quarter kicking 5.3 to 1.4. However, after kicking 4.17 last week against the Saints, their goalkicking woes still continued, as they kicked a pathetic 2.11 in the 3rd quarter. as they only lead by 56 points at 3 quarter time, but the lead could have been significantly more. Dane Swan was his usual best for the Magpies collecting 34 disposals, 4 marks and 1.0 while Alan Didak and Dale Thomas proved to be too nimble and too much up forward for the Hawk defenders to handle. Best for Hawthorn was Luke Hodge with 34 disposals and 2 marks. It was a good win for the Magpies, as they keep in touch with the top 4 and they have a very winnable game next week, as they take on the Bombers in the big ANZAC Day game, while the Hawks face a tricky and also winnable game against the Kangaroos in Tasmania and a loss there for Hawthorn could make things tough for them.

Brisbane Lions def Western Bulldogs @ the Gabba, Brisbane by 22 points.
The Brisbane Lions had to come from behind again to win making it the 3rd time that they've done so in 4 games this time inspired by former Blue Brendan Fevola. Brendan Fevola put a turbulent week behind him where he had admitted to gambling issues and inspired the Lions to a gutsy win over top 4 aspirant the Western Bulldogs. The Bulldogs had lead by 24 points at half-time after a 7.1 to 2.6 2nd quarter when they were inspired by a 4 goal quarter from Barry Hall, but Fevola wasn't to be denied. He replied with 4 goals himself in the 3rd quarter to help the Lions kick 6.7 to 2.1 to lead by 6 points at 3 quarter time. It was a great comeback win for the Lions, as the Bulldogs had lead by as much as 30 points during the 2nd quarter. Luke Power was busy in the midfield with 31 disposals, 6 mark game while Matthew Boyd had 27 disposal, 2 mark, 1.0 for the Bulldogs. However, I feel, that the Lions cannot keep continuing this way and need to find some consistency in their game and play for four quarters instead of waiting until they're far behind to come good. The Brisbane Lions face a danger game against the Demons @ the MCG while the Western Bulldogs should notch up their 3rd win of the season over a disappointing Adelaide Crows.

Melbourne def Richmond @ the MCG, Melbourne by 55 points
Colin Sylvia returned to the Demons line-up and has inspired his team to an impressive win over a disappointing Richmond team. Sylvia in his 1st game of 2010 kicked 5.1 from 20 disposals, 10 marks and 4 tackles in a serious contribution to continue Melbourne's impressive 1st month of the 2010 season. In a highly entertaining opening quarter where there were 13 goals kicked, Richmond had showed signs that they had showed up to play. In fact, they had kicked the 1st 2 goals of the game but the Demons responded kicking 8 goals to 3 and lead by 17 points @ quarter time. However, after leading by only 6 points at half-time, the Demons clicked into gear in the 3rd quarter kicking 7.4 to 0.2 to end any hope for the Tigers. After a horror week for the Tigers, where they had to suspend 4 players, Luke McGuane, Daniel Connors, Dean Polo and Ben Cousins for rowdy and drunken behaviour in a Sydney hotel after their game against the Swans last week, it was a disappointing result for them. However, they may have unearthed a good player in David Astbury. In his debut game for the Tigers, Astbury kicked 3.0 from 7 disposals and 3 marks and showed promised. Best for the Demons was Warrnambool boy Brent Moloney with 37 disposals and 4 marks. The Tigers like the Adelaide Crows face an uphill challenge to climb out of the bottom 4, as they take on the Fremantle Dockers @ Subiaco Oval, while the Demons could cause an upset of the round next week, as they take on the Brisbane Lions @ the MCG, Melbourne.

Geelong def Port Adelaide @ Skilled Stadium, Geelong by 95 points.
Geelong has unfurled their 2009 Premiership flag @ Skilled Stadium and has put the loss against the Fremantle Dockers last week behind them in the best possible fashion by a massive 95 points. It was an even 1st half where the Cats lead by 10 points after a 4.1 to 3.4 quarter that was won by the Power. Then the Cats kicked an amazing 11.7 to 1.0 in the 3rd quarter to set up the massive win. Steven Johnson returned to form with his best haul for the season kicking 6.2 from 16 disposals and 6 marks while mature-age recruit James Podsiadly starred kicking 5.1 from 14 disposals and 11 marks. The purple patch was started in the 3rd quarter where the Cats kicked 6 goals in 12 minutes to set up the win. In one amazing stat, they dominated the Inside 50's 21 to 5. After two come from behind wins and a close loss, have the Cats finally turned the corner and rediscovered their best form? After a promising 2.0 start by the Power, they are now 2.2 and are in danger from slipping further behind, as they take on Geelong's opponent in last year's Grand Final in St.Kilda, while the Cats should take care of Carlton on Monday week.

St.Kilda def Fremantle Dockers @ Etihad Stadium, Melbourne by 14 points.
It was another Match of the Round game involving the Fremantle Dockers and again, the match lived up to the hype. St.Kilda has answered their critics in the best possible way, when they asked who will kick their goals, with a strong and gutsy win and causing the Dockers undefeated streak to come to an end. One point was the margin at any of the breaks, but, it was St.Kilda who was the team that had gas left in the tank kicking 4.5 to 2.3 in the final quarter. All week, experts were wondering who will stand up to kick the Saints goals without star forwards Nick Riewoldt and Justin Koschitzke. The answer came from an unlikely duo in Brendon Goddard and Stephen Milne. Goddard kicked 5.2. from 21 disposals and 9 marks, while Milne kicked 5.0 from 21 disposals and 4 marks. Despite the loss, the Fremantle Dockers should take plenty of positives out of this game, as they were far from disgraced. Inspirational captain Matthew Pavlich tried to get them over the line kicking 5.0 from 16 disposals and 4 marks, but couldn't match Goddard's and Milne's efforts. The Saints had tried a couple of options up forward, even moving Zac Dawson up forward, after Pavlich got on top of him, but the Saints will no doubt welcome back next week of Justin Koschitzke, who will return from suspension. Aaron Sandilands proved to be the man to beat in the ruck for the All-Australian team getting 36 hitouts, 22 disposals and 7 marks. The Saints take on Port Adelaide in a game that they should win, even if it's at AAMI Stadium, Adelaide, while the Fremanlte Dockers also have an easy win against Richmond @ Subiaco Oval, Perth.

Heroics of the Week:
Brendan Fevola (Brisbane Lions)
Not only having a torrid pre-season, where he had to endure the Lara Bingle controvesy where incidently he has been cleared of any wrong-doing, Brendan Fevola this week has come out and declared that he had a gambling addiction. In a press conference earlier in the week, he announced that he is undergoing professional counselling to try and beat the addiction. He also declared that he owed at least $100,000 to 3 seperate bookies, so if he had a terrible game against the Western Bulldogs in Round 4, you would understand why. However, after a poor 1st half, Fevola lifted and kicked 4, 3 quarter goals to inspire a come from behind win. The Lions were as much as 30 points down in the 2nd quarter, and it would have been satisfying for Fevola to have made a decent contribution. Since he has been traded to the Brisbane Lions from Carlton, Fevola has made a solid contribution to his new team kicking 13 goals in 4 games. I have no doubt, in his new environment away from the media spotlight of Melbourne, he will thrive. After-all, it did wonders for another troubled-man in Tony Lockett at the Swans, and I have the same feeling, it could be the same for Brendan Fevola at his new club.

Team of the Week
The Premiership Window
I can see at least 5 teams be contenders. Lions, Cats, Saints and the Bulldogs are the teams to beat in my opinion mate.
