Player of the Week:
Lance Franklin (Hawthorn)

There are talks in the media that Hawthorn are a genuine premiership contender to the Collingwood Football Club this year. And the results so far, says that the media are not far wrong. The last 2 weeks, the Hawks have clicked into gear and despite being scratchy at times in their 45 point win over the Demons, their win on Saturday night in wet conditions against Richmond, proved the media to be correct in their verdicts, as they demolished an injury riddled Tigers line-up by 63 points, as they should.

If they are to progress up the ladder this year, the Hawks need one man to step up and that man is Lance Franklin. On Saturday night, he was sublime. He gathered 22 disposals, 2 marks and kicked 5.2. However, the challenge for Franklin now is to be more consistent with his conversion in front of goal, as he kicked 2.4 against Melbourne and 2.6 against the Adelaide Crows in Round 1, if he can get his goalkicking accuracy correct, the Hawks could go all the way.

Despite the media love affair with the Hawks, they haven't really beaten any quality sides yet, with no disrespect to the Demons who are an up and coming side, the Hawks were always going to win that game, as they have had a good run against the Demons in recent years and the Hawks should account for the Eagles this week in Launceston. The only real challenge for them so far this year, as been against the Adelaide Crows in Adelaide and lost by 20 points.

If/when they beat the Eagles, their Round 5 clash against the Geelong Cats, is going to be their best indicator of where the Hawks are. If they win that then, I believe they have improved greatly. They also have a tough game in Round 8 against St.Kilda, so the next month is crucial.

Lance Franklin appears to be back to his 2008 form, and if he can reproduce that, and kick around 100, the Hawks will be a formidable opponent, he is the man that could/will be the difference for the Hawthorn Football Club. If Franklin can produce his best, they can beat the Collingwood Football Club, but it's going to be a tough ask to do it.
