Heroics of the Week:
Video of the Black/Kirk Jumper Swapping
Dane Swan (Collingwood), Simon Black (Brisbane Lions) and Brett Kirk (Sydney Swans)
For the 1st time this season, I have 3 players that have fit in for the Heroics/Player of the Week. This week it's, Dane Swan from Collingwood, Simon Black from the Brisbane Lions and Brett Kirk for the Sydney Swans Football Club.
For the 2nd consecutive season, Dane Swan has won my Player of the Year Award from Gary Ablett who again finished 2nd with 74 votes. Swan has had another consistent season, gathering 701 disposals at an average of 32 per game, 124 marks and kicked 18 goals. He has won numerous awards in the media this year and surely, this could be the year that he could win the Brownlow Medal? He is my prediction for the award and is a dead certainty for a Midfield spot in the All-Australian side for 2010.
The tattooed one, is fast becoming one of my favourite non-Swans players and I still cannot believe that he is underrated by many non-Collingwood supporters. Hopefully, the planets are aligned together correctly and Swan will win his 1st Brownlow Medal.
On Saturday night, the Sydney Swans defeated the Brisbane Lions by 38 points at the Gabba. After the game, Brisbane's Simon Black and Sydney's Brett Kirk swapped jumpers at the end of the game. I thought it was a great gesture from Simon Black. Black is one of my most respected players in the AFL and this gesture shows that he is a genuinely great bloke and this also proves, that these two players have huge respect for each others, as Black said once, that Brett Kirk is his favourite player and vice versa.
It shows that the Lions and the Swans have respect for each other as clubs and players and you can tell that even amongst the supporters. Simon Black also mixed in with the Swans players at the Brownlow Medal count which shows that he has respect for us and has lots of mates at the Swans. I just hope that the jumper swapping, doesn't signal the retirement of Simon Black, as I feel that he still has 1 or 2 years left in him and can contribute to the Brisbane Lions Midfield.
If Michael Voss doesn't renew his contract, it would be a blight on the Brisbane Lions in my opinion, Simon Black would be more than welcomed at the Sydney Swans Football Club. I just hope that the respect shown amongst both clubs continues on into the future and form a healthy rivalry and continue to help form a strong and passionate respect for the Interstate Alliance, which will grow in the next two years, when the Gold Coast Suns and the Greater Western Sydney Football Clubs enter the AFL.
