Brisbane Lions def Carlton @ the Gabba, Brisbane.
Round 2 kicked off on Easter Thursday with the Brisbane Lions hosting Carlton this year and a Jonathan Brown led miracle kicking 7.1 got the Lions over the line. However, it wasn't all plain sailing for the Lions, in a game where most tipsters thought it would have been a pushover for them. At 3 quarter time, the Blues had lead by 7 points after a 7.3 to 2.4 3rd quarter and was set for a famous victory, however, the Lions kicked 6.4 to 2.2 in the final quarter and again for the 2nd straight week, had a hard fought, come from behind victory over the Blues. Todd Banfield was a livewire for the Lions all night having 11 disposals and kicking 2.1 in only his 2nd game, but the only bad news for the Lions coming out from this game was the suspension of Jared Brennan for 1 game after his bump on Matthew Kruezer. For Carlton, Marc Murphy was sublime for the Blues and proved to the Lions what could have been if he was at their club with a 34 disposal, 1.1 game.

Votes:
5: Jonathan Brown (Lions), 4: Marc Murphy (Blues), 3: Luke Power (Lions), 2: Setanta O'hAilpin (Blues), 1: Jared Brennan (Lions)

Collingwood def Melbourne @ the MCG, Melbourne.
Collingwood has had a scare of a lifetime, when a determined Melbourne nearly stole victory over the Magpies on Easter Saturday. With minutes to go, Leon Davis scored the match-winning goal for the Magpies, but the Demons had one last chance to snatch victory when Rohan Bail bombed the ball to the goalsquare, but the Demons player dropped the mark in the dying seconds of the game. All day, the Magpies looked a bit shakey and the Demons kept them quite honest. Former Terang-Mortlake player Jordie McKenzie was quite good for the Demons having 18 disposals and Ricky Petterd looked dangerous all day up forward for the Demons having 17 disposals and kicking 4.2. Dayne Beams in his 1st game of the season for the Magpies had a brilliant day out, having 27 disposals and kicking 1.2. There is light at the end of the tunnel for the Demons, while the Magpies need to improve a hell of a lot, if they are to make the top 4 after Saturday's performance.

Votes:
5: Scott Pendlebury (Magpies), 4: Aaron Davey (Demons), 3: Ricky Petterd (Demons), 2: Dayne Beams (Magpies), 1: Brad Green (Demons)

St.Kilda def North Melbourne @ Etihad Stadium, Melbourne.
St.Kilda flogged a rather disappointing North Melbourne team, by a massive 104 points on Saturday night. The Saints flew out of the blocks in the 1st quarter kicking 8.1 to 0.0 and the game was effectively over from that point on. Nick Riewoldt and Brendon Goddard starred up forward kicking 7.0 and 4.0 respectively. Brent Harvey had a dirty night by his lofty standards having 5 disposals for the night and was reported for tripping David Armitage, however, that charged was thrown out by the Match Review Panel. The only shining light for the Kangaroos was the form of veteren on-baller Brady Rawlings collecting 34 disposals and 8 marks and tried his heart out all night. The Saints sent an ominous warning to the rest of the AFL, that they are far from a spent force in 2010.

Votes:

5: Brendon Goddard (Saints), 4: Leigh Montagna (Saints), 3: Nick Riewoldt (Saints), 2: Nick Dal Santo (Saints), 1: Stephen Milne (Saints)

Port Adelaide def West Coast Eagles @ Subiaco Oval, Perth.

The other game on Easter Saturday night proved to be the better game out of the two and was a thriller from start to finish. However, it was another come from behind victory for the Power this time, where they kicked 6.1 to 3.3 in the final quarter to win in a tense game. The Power had trailled by 13 points at 3 quarter time after the Eagles kicked 4.5 to 0.2 and looking the goods, but then came along Jason Davenport. Davenport kicked 4 goals in the final quarter for the Power, to set up a very good win over in Perth. The Power has the wood over the Eagles winning the last 7 of 8 games between the two teams and 2 out of the last 3 in Perth. Justin Westhoff for the Power continued his good start to the season having 27 disposals. While for the Eagles Adam Selwood had 30 disposals and 10 tackles for the game. In more disappointing news for the Eagles however, Shannon Hurn will be out for the next two weeks after a head-high hit on Paul Stewart. It was an important victory for the Power, as they have the Brisbane Lions at home and that could prove a harder game for the Power, while the Eagles take on the Kangaroos in Melbourne in a must-win game over at Etihad Stadium.

Votes:
5: Justin Westhoff (Power), 4: Jason Davenport (Power), 3: Adam Selwood (Eagles), 2: Travis Boak (Power), 1: Josh Kennedy (Eagles)

Sydney Swans def Adelaide Crows @ AAMI Stadium, Adelaide.
On Easter Sunday, the Swans snapped a 6 game/6 year hoodoo that the Crows had enjoyed and recorded a 43 point victory @ AAMI Stadium. The Swans were near clinical in the 2nd quarter kicking 7.1 to 2.2, to set-up the victory for the visiters while the home crowd was shell-shocked. New Hawthorn recruit Ben McGlynn starred up forward for the Swans kicking 5.1 and collecting 23 disposals and 10 marks. Ryan O'Keefe continued his excellent form with another best on ground effort with 29 disposals, 5 marks and 3.0. The Crows were never in the hunt in the 2nd half, however, Patrick Dangerfield was the only shining light and dangerous forward for the Crows, kicking 5.1 from 16 disposals and 6 marks. In more good news for the Swans, Daniel Hannebery in only his 8th game for the Swans, won Round 2's Rising Star nomination, collecting 23 disposals and 3 marks. The Crows face a daunting task to get off the lower reaches of the ladder after a 0-2 start as they face a rejuvenated Melbourne team at the MCG, while the Swans take on Richmond at the SCG.

Votes:
5: Ryan O'Keefe (Swans), 4: Ben McGlynn (Swans), 3: Patrick Dangerfield (Crows), 2: Heath Grundy (Swans), 1: Mark Seaby (Swans)

Fremantle Dockers def Essendon @ Etihad Stadium, Melbourne
The Fremantle Dockers also broke a long-time hoodoo and recorded a 44 point victory over the Bombers. It was the 1st time they had enjoyed success over the Bombers in Melbourne since 1997. It was a close game up until 3 quarter time, where the Dockers had enjoyed a 9 point lead after a 5.4 to 3.3 3rd quarter. However, the Dockers stormed over the Bombers in the last quarter kicking 6.1 to 0.2 to set-up the victory. The win also leaves the Dockers undefeated after Round 2 for the 1st time in their history in the AFL. Michael Barlow proved last week wasn't a fluke, with another best on ground peformance, collecting 34 disposals, 8 marks and 1.0. Aaron Sandilands proved too much for David Hille and Patrick Ryder in the Ruck having 22 disposals, 8 marks, 1.0 and 39 hitouts. Best for the Bombers was captain Jobe Watson with 28 disposals, 4 marks and 1.0. It was a disappointing loss for the Bombers and it leaves them in a vulnerable position at 0.2 and facing arch enemies Carlton in Round 3. Another loss to the Blues next week, could be fatal for their season, especially after the Bombers supporters had high hopes for 2010 during the Pre-Season while the Dockers take on the Cats in the Match of the Round at Subiaco Oval. If they get over the line against the Cats, it could set up their season and a 3rd finals series could be on the cards for the Dockers.

Votes:
5: Michael Barlow (Dockers), 4: Aaron Sandilands (Dockers), 3: Jobe Watson (Bombers), 2: Paul Hasleby (Dockers), 1: Brent Prismall (Bombers)

Western Bulldogs def Richmond @ the MCG, Melbourne.
The twilight game on Easter Sunday proved to be a fizzer after the Bulldogs recorded a 72 point victory over a hapless and disappointing Richmond team. However, the Bulldogs weren't completely on-song themselves and at times took the Tigers lightly, but they got the job done. Barry Hall had a shocking game up forward in his 2nd game having 8 disposals, 6 marks and 1.2. The Bulldogs lead by 28 points at quarter time after kicking 6.2 to 2.0 and the game was effectively over by then. Best for the Bulldogs were Lindsay Gilbee with 30 disposals and 12 marks and Mitchell Hahn with 25 disposals, 9 marks and 3.5. Mitchell Morton tried hard for the Tigers up forward having 15 disposals, 2 marks and 3.1. The Tigers face a tough challenge to be in the hunt for a finals berth facing the Swans at the SCG in Round 3, while the Bulldogs face a must-win game against the Hawks.

Votes:
5: Lindsay Gilbee (Bulldogs), 4: Daniel Cross (Bulldogs), 3: Adam Cooney (Bulldogs), 2: Mitchell Hahn (Bulldogs), 1: Matthew Boyd (Bulldogs)

Geelong def Hawthorn @ the MCG, Melbourne.
The Match of the Round proved to be just that on Easter Monday, when the Cats after looking shakey in the 1st half, overcame Hawthorn in the 2nd half to record a 9 point victory. The Hawks looked to be in control for the majority of the match but the Cats kicked 4.4 to 2.3 in the last to have a come from behind victory. The Hawks at times lead by as much as 4 goals throughout the match. Lance Franklin in his 1st game of the season kicked 2.3 from 16 disposals and 3 marks while Jarryd Roughead kicked 4.1 from 13 disposals and 5 marks. Best for Geelong was Jimmy Bartel with 29 disposals, 5 marks, 10 tackles and 0.3. Best for Hawthorn was Sam Mitchell having 30 disposals, 7 marks and 1.0. The Cats also need to improve if they are to make the top 4, as they appear to be far from their best. 68, 628 was the crowd attendance and I was one of them, was a pleasing figure and the AFL surely must be happy after the game. In an odd twist of fate, the Hawks had lead for 105 minutes of the 120 minutes that was played and the comeback win was nearly unheard of after the Cats had the kicking yips in the 2nd quarter like they had in the 2008 Grand Final, where they kicked 1.7. But they kicked 9.7 to 4.4 in the 2nd half to record the win.

Votes:
5: Paul Chapman (Cats), 4: Jimmy Bartel (Cats), 3: Sam Mitchell (Hawks), 2: Cameron Mooney (Cats), 1: Jarryd Roughead (Hawks)

Leadersboard after Round 2:
10: Michael Barlow (Fremantle Dockers)
10: Jonathan Brown (Brisbane Lions)
10: Ryan O'Keefe (Sydney Swans)
8: Jimmy Bartel (Geelong)
7: Sam Mitchell (Hawthorn)
7: Nick Riewoldt (St.Kilda)
6: Adam Selwood (West Coast Eagles)

Heroics of the Week:
Jason Davenport (Port Adelaide)
After trailling by 13 points at 3 quarter time, the Power needed something special to comeback and win and they found it in the form of Jason Davenport. Davenport was superb in the last quarter kicking all of his 4 goals of the game and set up the victory for the Power. The Power got out of the blocks early in the last quarter, kicking the 1st 4 goals unanswered. But the Eagles weren't without their chances late in the game but sprayed a few chances. It was his best game of the career, he collected 17 disposals, 6 marks, 8 tackles and 4.2. Jason Davenport won a reprieve in the 2008 AFL Draft and was picked up at number 78 and could prove to be a selection winner for the Power.
