Heroics of the Week:
Jobe Watson (Essendon) and Kyle Hardingham (Essendon)
Usually in high scoring games there are numerous stand-outs. However, when Essendon broke a long run of outs on Saturday when they defeated North Melbourne by 3 points, there were 2 main ones that caught my eye. The 1st one is Jobe Watson, the captain of the Essendon Football Club.
If there was ever a captains game, this game was it. Watson collected 38 disposals, 5 marks and kicked 2 crucial goals to set up the win, but, he was more instrumental than just getting the ball. Watson struggled for most of the 2nd half with what appeared to be a serious injury which forced him onto the bench, he but came back on and took a game saving mark with 35 seconds remaining.
The 2nd player is Kyle Hardingham. The 22 year old, debuted on Saturday night, after being over looked in several drafts. The mature age recruit looked impressive and kicked 4 goals from 7 marks. Hardingham along with other mature-age recruits like Michael Barlow from the Fremantle Dockers, proves, that it is never to late to achieve your dream in playing in the AFL.
