Heroics of the Week:
Mark LeCras (West Coast Eagles)
Not since Scott Cummings kicked 10 goals in a game for the Eagles in Round 6, 2000 @ Subiaco Oval, since a player had kicked 10 goals or more in a game for the West Coast Eagles. Mark LeCras achieved this feat on Saturday night, when he helped the Eagles defeat Essendon @ Etihad Stadium.
Not only it was an amazing performance from a player affectionally known as "the Frenchman" by the Eagles supporters, it smashed the previous record held by Stephen Milne for the most goals kicked by an individual player @ Etihad Stadium when Milne kicked 11 goals and helped the Saints to a massive 139 point win over a hapless Brisbane Lions line-up in Round 22, 2005.
LeCras had 8 goals up until half-time and kicked another 4 in the 2nd half, to become the 2nd player in 2010 behind Jack Riewoldt, to kick 10 goals or more. Could this individual effort, help steer the Eagles off the bottom of the ladder? And could this effort, finally help him achieve All-Australian status? Last year, he kicked 58 goals and this year, he is on 50 goals after 16 rounds. Surely, he is on track to better his effort from last year and surely, the All-Australian selectors wouldn't snub him for an All-Australian berth for the 2nd year running? If he is, then there's something wrong with the All-Australian selection criteria.
