Heroics of the Week:
Lance Franklin (Hawthorn)
When people ask me why I prefer the great Australian game - Australian Rules Football over Soccer, I always answer because our Australian game is more athletic, skillful and more couragous. They say, you should support your national Soccer team and be patriotic, but, when I am supporting our own local game, I am being patriotic instead of going with the flow. Last Friday night, we saw one player single-handledly beat a team of his own boot, with his skill and athletism and these type of players, is the main reason why I prefer Aussie Rules over Soccer, his name is Lance Franklin.
Franklin sparked up the MCG, with 26 disposals, 10 marks and 5 goals, 4 behinds in a dominate display playing predominately in the midfield, but drifting forward and kicked 2 brilliant goals on the run, after some hard, gut busting runs that sparked Hawthorn to a memorable win, which was their 6th straight win in a row. One of his but gusting running goals was nominated for goal of the year and is right up there to win it. I love watching the indigenous players like Lance Franklin light up our game and I will continue to do so in the future because of it. The win has set up Hawthorn big time, for a late charge for a top 4 spot, after earlier in the season, it appeared that the Hawks had no chance, after winning 1 game in the 1st 6 games. Could they make my prediction at the start of the season, of finishing in the top 4 a reality? If they beat the Western Bulldogs one of their bogey sides, they have a good shot at it, the Bulldogs/Hawks game on Friday night is crucial for both sides to have any chance for a top 4 spot. Who will win? Time will tell, but, I hope it'll be another great chapter in the great Australian game.
