Heroics of the Week:
Lindsay Thomas (North Melbourne)
The AFL celebrated 25 years of Friday night Football this week and in year's gone by, it was dominated by the North Melbourne Football Club and the Krakouer brothers Jim and Phil. Both Jim and Phil use to light up the MCG and became popular in the 80's as a small forward specialist duo. However, on Friday night, North Melbourne's Lindsay Thomas starred while Phil Krakouer was watching on in the Grandstands and helped his Kangaroos to an impressive 29 point victory over Carlton. Lindsay Thomas was electrifying in the forward line booting 7.5 from 20 disposals and 8 marks. In the past, he has been a maligned player for the Kangaroos, but after 66 games, has he finally found his feet in the AFL? This season he has booted 25.19 from 12 games and is in contention for the small forwards role in my All-Australian team.

Jack Riewoldt (Richmond)

Not since Jonathan Brown in Round 16, 2007 since a player has kicked 10 goals in a game and not since Michael Roach did it for Richmond where he kicked 11.0 for the Tigers to help steer them to a 39 point win over Hawthorn in Round 5, 1985 @ Princes Park. Jack Riewoldt achieved this rare feet for the Tigers on Sunday, to help the Tigers win their 2nd game of the year over a disapppointing West Coast Eagles. Riewoldt was impressive on Sunday, marking everything in his sights and he set the standards early, kicking 5 goals in the 1st 19 minutes to get Richmond off to a flying start. The younger cousin of St.Nick was best on ground kicking 10.3 from 19 disposals and 9 marks. He is now leading the Coleman Medal with 45 goals for the season, 2 ahead of the next rival in Barry Hall. Can he win the Coleman Medal for Richmond? If he does, he'll be the 1st Tigers player to win the Coleman Medal since 1981, when Michael Roach won the award with 86 goals for the season. An All-Australian berth is also beckoning for Riewoldt and that would be an amazing achievement for someone that has only played 68 games, if he plays the remaining 10 games.
